How to wash a gymnastics outfit
There are many different types of fabric that gymnastics apparel is made of. Below we give a brief explanation of the different fabrics and how to wash gymnastics apparel.Gymnastics leotards made of velour fabric with glitter and/or rhinestones on it
.Velvet is a strong fabric that can be washed well in a washing machine. This fabric contains Elasthan, which provides the elasticity of the fabric.
Elasthan hates perspiration, as well as, for example, chlorine, sunscreen and deodorant. Just think of your swimwear, which will eventually discolor if you use it for its intended purpose.
The glitter and rhinestones are vulnerable in this case. The glitter and rhinestones have glue on the back, through heat the glue melts and that is how we press the glitter onto the fabric.
If you wash hot, or put the leotard in the washing machine, the glue may come off and glitter may fall off the leotard.
A leotard is an article of use, so it is impossible to completely prevent the occasional glitter from falling off.
Our advice is to rinse the leotard with water immediately after exercise to remove perspiration.
Wash on a short delicate cycle (no wool cycle) with very little detergent, maximum 30 degrees. Because of the rhinestones wash the leotard inside out. Immediately after washing, you can hang up the leotard to prevent the fabric from sticking together.
Leotards made of wetlook fabric with glitter and/or rhinestones on them
.Wetlook fabric is actually like the lycra fabric of old, but with a shiny film layer printed on it.
There is Elasthan in this fabric, which provides the elasticity of the fabric.
Elasthan hates perspiration as well as, for example, chlorine, sunscreen and deodorant. Think of your swimwear, which will eventually discolor if you use it for its intended purpose.
Because of the shiny film layer, the stretchiness of wet-look fabric is much less than velour, for example. We consider the stretchability of the fabric in our designs and the fit of the gymnastics leotards.
Because you want to keep the shiny film layer beautiful as long as possible and the glitter stones are fragile, the leotard should be washed with care.
Our advice is to rinse the leotard with water immediately after exercise with a hand wash, so that perspiration is out of the leotard. Use only a small amount of soap (pea-sized) for the crotch and armpits.
After washing, hang the gymnastics leotard so that the fabrics do not stick together.
Summary
All well-known gymnastics apparel brands use the same type of fabrics from the same manufacturers.Over the years, manufacturers developed more and more beautiful, but also more fragile fabrics.
Velour is a type of fabric that is as strong as jeans. The other types of fabric are much more fragile, especially because of the glitter film that is printed on them.
Wet-look leotards are made to shine during a competition!
Of course you can also use these leotards for training, however, you should not expect them to last as long as a velour leotard.
Wetlook leotards are very popular right now, only consumers are used to washing it like a velour leotard. We almost all wash too well.
By handling your leotard carefully, wetlook leotards can last for years.
All fabrics used in our collection are thoroughly tested before we include them in our collection. If fabrics do not meet the quality requirements, we do not include them in our collections.
We are therefore assured that our fabrics do not discolor provided a hand wash is done and the fabric is not left to soak in water.
We do not guarantee discoloration and/or washing complaints caused by improper washing. The purchase of gymnastics clothing made with delicate fabrics and glitter is at your own risk or at the risk of the club.
